The Boby Satria’s, has submitted a very good video for our submission to a contest which is called ‘Democracy Video Challenge’. This contest is provided by US Government. This year is the second year DVC engaged. The Democracy Video Challenge is an opportunity for the youth to define our vision of what democracy is.

On the first year, DVC has succesfully engaged hundreds of new voices in the democratic process of reform and now brings even more voices to the discussion of ‘Democracy Is…’ including our video.

Boby Satria, as the representative of this team on the contest have submitted our video. Our short term goal is to become the representative of Indonesia as the finalist that choosen by the U.S. Department of State. The U.S Department of State will choose three finalists from each of the six world geographic regions (Western Hemisphere, East Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa, Near East, South & Central Asia). And our long term goal is to become the winner of this contest and also to let people all around the world KNOWS that here, on Indonesia during the last 11 years, Indonesia has steadily progressed towards democratization alongside political decentralization, despite Indonesia is among the last countries in Southeast Asia that embarked into democracy.

This all will not be easy guys. To be honest, this special post is created to make sure that all of you kindly support us. There are so many ways to do that. You can start to view our video on Youtube and if you have a Youtube account, please leave a comment and rate. We really appreciate it. And then you can start to promote this video. Our video basically talks about our perspective of what democracy is. We represent Democracy as an ICE CREAM. ICE CREAM has multiple meanings. First meaning is an acronym for Independently Choosing Everything and CREAting Mature-decision about it. Then Democracy on our perspective is like the ICE CREAM that you choose and buy, any taste that you get, you still like it. Democracy is ICE CREAM for hope to wait, freedom to choose, and happiness at the end.

Sekilas Tentang Repository, Movie Player, Efek Ekstra di Linux Ubuntu

Baiklah, tanpa memperpanjang mukodimah #halah, pertanyaan dari komen itu adalah :

Baik, coba aku jawab yaa, caranya yaituuuuuu :

1.Muter MP3 dan Video di Ubuntu
Saya sebenernya gag ngerti maksud pertanyaannya. Mungkin maksudnya karena MOVIE PLAYER (bawaan standart Ubuntu yg bisa buat muter MP3 sama Video) belum nemuin paketnya, jadi si Movie Player belom bisa muterin MP3 sama Video. Nah, disitulah peran Repository & itu jugalah enaknya pake Ubuntu.

Kalo kamu punya Repository Ubuntu, maka cara menginstall paketnya yaitu, buka file MP3, nanti Movie Player pasti minta Search paket pelengkapnya. Nah, kamu search aja. Begitu ketemu, install deh.

Tapi kalo kamu gag punya Repository Ubuntu, kamu konek aja ke Internet. sebelumnya, kamu cek dulu Software Source yang ada di System–>Administrator–>Software Source. Pastikan Di tab Ubuntu Software, semua pilihan di Downloadable From the Internet digunakan.

Kemudian, buka tab Other Software, pastikan semua sumber ysng merujuk ke Internet itu di pilih. Nah, baru kamu lakuin cara diatas.
2. Soal bikin Desktop kaya agar-agar (kalo aku nyebutnya efek jelly) itu, gampang kok. Klik Kanan di Desktop bebas, pilih Change Desktop Background. Setelah masuk ke Jendela baru Appearance Preferences, pilih tab Visual Efek. Tandai salah satu diantara beberapa pilihan. Seinget aku sih, pilih Extra. Kalo VGA kamu uda terdetect dengan baik di Ubuntu, kamu bisa langsung make efek ini dengan cara diatas. Kalo VGA kamu belom terdetect, kamu gag bisa pake efek ini sampai ada aplikasi tambahan terinstall untuk VGA kamu. Bahkan kalo VGA kamu udah terbaca di Ubuntu, kamu bisa pake tambahan efek lain yang lebih OK.

3.Tutorial Mail Server dan Keamanannya, wehehe. Kebetulan sekali saya baru ujian soal bikin mail server dan keamanannya itu, tapi saya belom bisa posting soal tutorialnya, mungkin lain kali akan saya posting.

Instalasi NVIDIA di Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

Salah satu hal yang menarik kalo make Ubuntu adalah, grafiknya yang canggih pisan euy! Nah, bagi kamu yang punya laptop ato PC dengan grafik NVIDIA, maka diperlukan cara-cara khusus untuk mengaktifkan NVIDIA. Soalnya, kalo NVIDIA ini gag aktif, kecanggihan grafik di Ubuntu gag bakal kita rasakan. NVIDIA ini gag langsung support sama Ubuntu, makanya butuh aplikasi tambahan. Dikasus ini, aku make NVIDIA yang NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run di Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala.

Maka untuk dapetin kecanggihan grafik Ubuntu itu, hal yang harus kita lakukan adalah

1. download NVIDIA yang versinya sesuai sama PC atau Laptop kamu di situs resminya
2. Salin file tersebut ke direktori home user
3. Masuk ke command-prompt dengan menekan ctrl+alt+f1 (bisa juga f2, f3, f4, f5, atau f6)
4. Login sebagai super-user,
5. Hapus driver nVidia :
   # apt-get remove –purge nvidia*
6. Nonaktifkan desktop manager gnome :
   # /etc/init.d/gdm stop
7. Instal driver VGA :
   # sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run
8. Ikuti petunjuk dilayar
9. Aktifkan desktop manager gnome :
   # /etc/init.d/gdm start
10. Jalankan X-server :
    # startx

Nah, kalo sukses, kamu bakal bisa make semua keunggulan grafik Ubuntu kaya efek Jelly, ato efek-efek lain yang tersedia.

Mount Repository Permanen untuk Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

wehehe, setelah sekian lama menjadi pengguna setia Windows, akhirnya aku sedikit selingkuh ke platform lain (maap ya Windows). Aku beralih ke OS yang gratisan, alias free, Linux. Ya Linux, Linux Ubuntu Desktop. Tadinya sih gara-gara dosen yang maksain harus bisa coding-coding dasar di Linux, tapi makin dijalanin, hubungan kami makin intim (aku dan Linux) #halah. J

Selesai soal perkenalan aku dan Linux, mari kita coba bahas tentang Linux (sok ngerti, padahal masih newbie, hehe). Baiklah, karena aku masih pemula sebagai pengguna Linux, maka kalo ada yang salah, silahkan di komentari ya, biar sama-sama jadi pinter #halah

Baiklah, untuk Posting pertama soal Linux, aku mo bahas soal cara Mount Repository secara permanen ke Linux Ubuntu Desktop. Untuk contoh kasus, aku pake Linux Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala, Repository nya dalam format .iso

1. $sudo su
2. # mkdir /mnt/1 /mnt/2 /mnt/3 /mnt/4 /mnt/5 /mnt/6 /mnt/7

Langkah ini buat bikin Direktori di bagian di dalem directory mnt dengan nama 1-7. Kenapa 1-7? soalnya Repository buat Karmic Koala itu ada 7.
